Beyond pretty. This is a great example of using new media to do new things. It's not about adapting what you always do to the new possibilities, it's about approaching everything from an absolute new perspective.

Más que bonito. Este es un ejemplo genial del uso de nuevos medios para hacer cosas nuevas. No se trata de adaptar lo que siempre se a hecho a las nuevas posibilidades, sino de enfocarlo desdse una perspectiva completamente nueva, y empezar el proceso de cero.

La Baker

When I saw last spring's collections (specially prada's) I thought "And a Josephine Baker edit in 3, 2..." there was this exercise from Vogue Italia, but I can't say I'm a big fan of the let's get every black model out there and put them together and call it Black Allure... anyways, Tush just did this one with Ellen Von Unwerth and Rose Cordero, who did a pretty decent job as miss Baker.

Cuando vi las colecciones de la primavera pasada (especialmente la de prada) pensé: "Un editorial de Josephine Baker, en 3, 2..." Estuvo este ejercicio de Vogue Italia, pero no soy muy fan de coger a todas las modelos negras que hay, ponerlas a todas juntas y llamarlo "Black Allure" (un poco de imaginación, hombre), de todas formas, aquí hay uno que hicieron en Tush con Rose Cordero para Ellen Von Unwerth. La verdad es que Rose lo hace bastante bien como La Baker.

Take a look at this editorial by Greg Kadel for Vogue Spain. I've always loved Malgosia Bela, I think she has an amazing face, and I love what they've done with her here. She's very expressive (usually, she's a bit more restrained and cool) the editing is flawless, the styling is VERY va-va-voom-y and the light and colors are very nice and clean. Simple but very nice.

Miren este editorial de Greg Kadel para Vogue España. Siempre me ha gustado Malgosia Bela, creo que tiene una cara increíble, y me ha encantado lo que hicieron con ella aquí. Está súper expresiva (usualmente es mucho más cool y fría) la edición está perfecta, el estilismo va-va-voom-ico (no sé cómo traducirlo, pero creo que se entiende), y la luz y los colores muy bonitos y limpios. Simple pero muy bueno.

If you happen to be in Madrid and have time to spare, I seriously recommend stopping by Fundación Telefónica  (Alcalá 31). The "1000 faces / 0 faces / 1 face" exhibition, will be showing the works of Frank Montero (untill very recently unkown), the celebrated Thomas Ruff and Cindy Sherman; the latter being not only a huge name in contemporary photography, but one of my favorite artists and (along with Sophie Calle and Wolfgang Tillmans) part of a threesome who completely changed my views on photography.

So there, go out, sunbathe, drink tintos de verano untill sunset, dance the night away and then go see the show the morning after. Well, that's what I'll be doing anyway. ¡Feliz viernes!

Si estás por Madrid este finde, recomiendo seriamente que te pases por la Fundación Telefónica (Alcalá 31). La expo "1000 caras / 0 caras / 1 rostro" mostrará las obras del hasta ahora desconocido Frank Montero, el gran Thomas Ruff y Cindy Sherman. Ésta última no solo es un nombre muy importante en la fotografía contemporánea, pero una de mis artistas favoritas y (junto a Sophie Calle y Wolfgang Tillmans) parte de un trío que cambió por completo mi percepción de la fotografía. 


Así que nada, sal a tomar el sol, bebe tintos de verano toda la tarde, baila toda la noche y luego ve a ver la expo al día siguiente. Bueno, eso es lo que planeo hacer yo de todas formas. ¡Feliz viernes!

So, Met & Marcus and Mdme. Alt made this editorial for Vogue Paris, "based" on an editorial Steve Meisel did in 1989 with Linda Evangelista.

I must say it takes guts to try and stand up next to names that big. And the reason it takes guts is because regardless of how good you are it's hard to be somebody else. Had it been an original, the editorial would've been nice, but when you compare it to Meisel's (wich is amazing) it's kinda plain. It's a Sexual vs Sensual kinda thing.

But, don't take my word for it, have a look. To the left, the original, to the right, M&M...&A attempt.

Bueno, pues Met&Marcus y Mdme. Alt hicieron este editorial para Vogue Paris, "basado" en un editorial que Steve Meisel hizo en 1989 con Linda Evangelista.


Tengo que decir que hay que tener valor para ponerse al lado de nombres tan grnades. Y la razón es que no importa lo bueno que seas es difícil ser alguien más. De haber sido un original, este editorial sería bonito, pero si lo comparas con el de Meisel (que es increíble) se queda corto. Es un asunto de Sexualidad vs. Sensualidad. 


Pero no me crean a mí, aquí están las fotos. A la izquierda, el original, y a la derecha, el intento de M&M...&A.

Yes, what my last post reminded me of: The work of Alexey Brodovitch, who was an amazing art director and made beautiful covers for Harper's Bazaar. Among his studants and collaborators, was the giant, Richard Avedon.

Si, a lo que la imagen de mi último post me recordaba: Al trabajo de Alexey Brodovitch, un increíble director de arte que realizó portadas históricas para Harper's Bazaar. Entre sus estudiantes y colaboradores estuvo el gigantesco Richard Avedon.

Confession: Sometimes children's editorials spook me out. It's only because the kids in them often look at the camera liker they're 30. Or they're captured with that intention.
However, the other day I recieved this very cool editorial by Esperanza Moya for yo donna and I loved how the kids look adorable and are acting like actual children. Loveley pics.   

Confesión: Los editoriales de moda infantil a veces me dan repeluz. Más que nada porque los niños que salen con frecuencia miran a cámara como si tuvieran 30 años. O por lo menos los pillan con esa intención. 
De todas formas, el otro día recibí este editorial de Esperanza Moya para yo donna y me encantó que los niños además de ser adorables se ven como niños de verdad. Muy bonitas fotos.
